Maternity have published an open letter to all service users regarding the on-going refurbishment of the Maternity Unit
November 2021
Information for Maternity Users: Our current refurbishment
We are looking forward to welcoming you to the Jersey Maternity Unit and wish you and your family all the best at this special time.
Before you arrive in the Maternity Unit, we want to let you know that due to investment in our maternity services, which includes a much-needed refurbishment, the Maternity Unit isn’t looking like it normally would.
Although the result of the refurbishment will mean that the Unit will look and feel welcoming, with en-suite facilities and a modern, soothing look and feel, at the moment, you will see that it looks very different from what you may expect or have experienced before if you have previously given birth in the Maternity Unit. It isn’t an ideal environment and that’s why we need to do the much-needed work now to make sure it is in the future.
The ongoing works do mean that at times, the Unit will be noisy. We apologise about this but we are doing all we can to work with contractors to keep this to a minimum, and we are undertaking noise surveys to ensure that noise does not become more of an issue than it needs to be.
If your baby needs to spend time in our Special Care Baby Unit, the SCBU Team will make your baby as comfortable as possible and this will involve putting ear muffs on your baby when there are noisy works in progress. Additionally, all parents are reassured that ear muffs will be provided for any newborn not in SCBU, who is in the vicinity of noisy works.
We understand that for all parents, but particularly those who have babies in SCBU, that due to the amount of time you will spend with us, you may find the environment particularly unsettling. We apologise for this.
No matter what the Unit looks like, please be assured that the commitment of our dedicated team, and their care of you and your new-born is our utmost priority.
If, prior to your stay with us you have any queries or concerns please contact the Maternity Ward on (01534) 442450 and we will be happy to take time to talk to you. During your stay, if you have any queries or concerns please speak to a member of the Maternity team.
